Chasing Bees and Blossoms: Exploring Macro with My iPhone 17 Pro Max

I have to write a few words about last week’s experience with iPhone photography and lenses. I am so excited about my new iPhone 17 Pro Max gear. I bought the Reeflex macro kit. 240mm zoom, 200mm, and 300mm macro, which I can set on my iPhone. You need to have the reflex cases on the iPhone so you can screw the lenses on. And then you are ready to start exploring macro photography with your iPhone.

It´s fun and also challenging. It is smart to use a tripod, but you can also do it handheld; then you have to be very steady.

No editing, right from the camera app, taken with 240mm+200mm macro. The iPhone was then 20cm from the fly.

I like to use both methods. When I take pictures of flowers, a tripod is very helpful. But the picture above shows how sharp I can also get an insect without using a tripod.  I tried to hold it without a tripod because insects jump quickly from flower to flower and don’t stay in one place for long. The movement goes very fast, and it can be easier to follow the insect handheld than with a tripod.

But one method with a tripod is to choose a flower, wait for an insect to come, sit there for a millisecond, and then shoot quickly enough to catch it.

The spider is captured using a tripod. And the spider was as small as my fingertip.

I think I will learn more about methods for taking sharp pictures of flowers and insects the more I practice.

Here are some pictures I took with the Reeflex kit in the last few days.

(I have no affiliation with Reeflex – it’s simply the kit I use and love)
