The Mood of Black and White vs. Color Photography

A black and white photograph of a jagged rock formation with a solitary tree leaning towards the sky in the background.

Sometimes I like to play around with black and white. I love colors, and it is challenging to do black-and-white. But sometimes I think that colors are in the way for the patterns in the objects.

Here is a picture from some days ago. A lonely tree clings to the rock. It is used in harsh weather.

The sun is shining on the trees; here, the patterns the trees make come through. I think that the black and white create a mysterious feeling. That would not have come through in color. It would be two different moods.

So what do you think? Is it Black-and-white or color, or both in different conditions? Do you do black-and-white photography?
