Inn i lyset: En reise gjennom Spro-hulene

Nesodden, just outside Oslo.

Today, I had the privilege of spending a workday unlike any other — exploring the spectacular Spro Caves on Nesodden, a hidden gem just a short trip from Oslo. It was more than a hike. It was a transformation.

We began our journey at Spro Brygge, following a coastal path for about 20 minutes. The trail wound its way through forest and cliffs, occasionally steep, but with fences and ropes to help us along. Already here, the adventure had begun.

Then came the entrance — a narrow, almost hidden opening in the rock. We stepped inside and followed a dim passage, not knowing quite what to expect. And then… it opened.

A breathtaking landscape unfolded before us. High stone walls surrounded a quiet pond. Trees arched above, their green reflected in the still water. Sunlight poured in from above like a silent blessing. We had to climb over rocks, using both hands and feet to move deeper into the heart of the cave. But it was worth every step.

Inside, I felt like I had entered a fairytale. The scale, the silence, the raw, untouched beauty — it made me feel small, but in the best possible way. As though I had stepped into something ancient and sacred, and I was simply allowed to witness it for a moment.

With my camera in hand, something shifted. I felt brave. I didn’t just climb over stones — I crossed internal borders too. Fear faded. Curiosity and wonder took its place. The desire to capture this magical place in a photograph gave me the courage to move forward, to explore, to be fully present.

And this is why I photograph.

Because when I hold a camera, I feel no fear.

I’m deeply grateful to my wonderful colleagues who brought me here. And even more grateful for the reminder that beauty and courage often live side by side — waiting just beyond the path, just beyond the fear.

If you ever have the chance to visit Spro Caves, take it. It’s not just a place to see — it’s a place to feel.
