Yesterday evening I went on a photo walk, looking for subjects for macro photography. I was thrilled when I saw a rosehip bed and decided to photograph it in macro. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

It was a cloudy evening, so shadows were not a problem for yesterday’s photography. I mostly like to photograph macro when it is overcast because I don’t like too much contrast between light and shadow. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Exploring the Reeflex procamera 3.0 app<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

I am still exploring iPhone photography and Reeflex lenses, and I use the Reeflex Pro app when I photograph with them. So yesterday I tried out the Focus-Bracketing tool in the app. I let the camera take three pictures with a set focus distance in between, and then I got the question: Do you want to stack them together? When I answered yes, the app stacked the three pictures together into one sharp photo. You can also choose how many pictures you want the camera to take before stacking them. <\/p>\n\n\n

It was really fun to try focus bracketing. It was a little windy, which made the technique challenging, but I took some shots that I think were good enough.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Review of the shots from Claude<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

I thought the pistils, stamens, and petals together were so beautiful. The colors, together with all the green leaves and the light on the flower, were so nice. Not only the first picture, but also the two other photos below remind me of early autumn. But I love the wonderful colors they make. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I put the pictures into Claude and asked if Claude could give me a review of the composition and the quality of each picture. Here is Claude’s review of two of my pictures from yesterday. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rose hip in bloom – pistils and stamens caught mid-light, just before the petals begin to fall.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

The diagonal line of the pistil (the curved, white\/green stalk) against the soft pink\/red background adds direction and depth. The sharpness lands exactly where it should \u2014 on the stamens and stigmas \u2014 while the background blurs beautifully without becoming distracting. The color contrast between the vivid pink petal, green foliage, and rust-colored stamens is gorgeous.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A very strong image. The round shape of the rose hip fills the frame well, and the dried petal remnants create a natural “frame” around the cluster of seeds in the center. The sharpness of the seeds and the tiny hairs along the edge are impressive for a phone macro shot. Good use of symmetry\/centering here \u2014 something that actually works because the subject itself is so organically irregular.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Between Bloom and Seed<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Looking at these two photographs side by side, I’m struck by how different they feel even though they’re from the same rosehip bed, taken minutes apart. One is still full of life \u2014 pistils reaching upward, petals catching the light. The other has already moved on, seeds settling in where the flower once was. Together they feel like a quiet little study of a season turning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Focus bracketing turned out to be more forgiving than I expected, even with the wind working against me. There’s something satisfying about watching the app stack three exposures into one sharp image \u2014 almost like it’s doing the patient, careful work my eyes can’t quite manage on their own.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Autumn is coming. But for one cloudy evening, this rosehip bed gave me a little more of summer to hold onto.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
